Advent 2016 Missions

Advent 2016 Missions

This Advent season, join in sharing the joy through gifts to communities near and far:

Giving Tree

In the Church Narthex, our Christmas tree will be adorned with giving tags.  The tags, from the Salvation Army Angel Tree Giving program show the age and gender of a child.  Choose a tag and purchase a gift for that child. Attach a gift tag to a new UNWRAPPED gift and place it under the tree. Giving tags will be available Sunday December 6.  Please place gifts under the tree on or before Sunday, December 11.

Adopt a Family

Adopt-A-Family is a Salvation Army holiday program designed to assist families who are in crisis as a result of unemployment, homelessness, medical issues or other difficult circumstances, and who otherwise wouldn’t have the resources to celebrate the holidays.  This program provides a wonderful holiday experience for families at a critical time in their lives.

Our goal at FPCMV this year is to adopt two families, providing opportunities for church families to participate in selecting and delivering  food, clothing and gifts. If you would like to participate, please contact the church office as soon as possible, as the Salvation Army to give the Adopters time to receive information on the families and shop for them.

Christmas Joy Offering

The Christmas Joy offering is an opportunity to share God’s love with those who serve the church. Presbyterians have long given generously, through the Christmas Joy Offering (CJO), to help those ministers, other church workers, and their families in need, as well as students at racial ethnic schools and colleges of the PC(USA).

On December 18, special offering envelopes will be available to give a gift which equally supports the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions and racial ethnic schools and colleges of the PC(USA). Click here for additional information on the Christmas Joy offering.

Poinsettias

Each Advent season we decorate the Sanctuary with an abundance of donated poinsettias.  Donation forms are available on the Connection table from Sunday November 13 through December 17. On the form you can indicate if you would like the plant to be delivered to a shut-in.  Church members will also receive an email opportunity to order through Sign Up Genius.

Poinsettia Delivery Advent Sundays

Beginning Sunday November 27, you have an opportunity to deliver a poinsettia to a member of the community who is unable to attend services. If you would like to volunteer, pick up a delivery card in the Narthex directly after the10:00 am worship service.
